How we compare them

  • Licence first: an operator enters the list only once its registration has been read on the official iGaming Ontario and AGCO register, on a date shown.
  • NHL markets: what the operator states it offers on hockey, as its own pages put it, quoted and dated.
  • Payment methods: deposit and withdrawal, in the operator’s words, with minimums, fees and times when published.
  • Never by promotion: the Ontario rule forbids advertising them outside the operator’s own site, and this page carries none.

How a player complains about a regulated igaming site
Complain to the gaming site first and wait for its formal decision (up to 90 days); then, if a regulated site is thought to have broken the rules, file a complaint with the AGCO through the iAGCO online service. The AGCO acknowledges within about 2 business days, a compliance review takes up to 5 weeks, a complex review 3 to 6 months. The AGCO can issue warnings, suspensions or monetary penalties, but cannot recover a player s money. Making a complaint to the AGCO won’t resolve your dispute with an internet gaming site. We can’t get your money back or make a gaming site give you your money back.

Tax on gambling winnings for a recreational player
Gambling and betting winnings of a recreational (non-business) player are not subject to tax: they are windfalls, not income from a source. Such winnings become taxable business income only where the person is carrying on the business of gambling (e.g. bookmaking, or operating a gambling establishment). Per CRA, even regular and systematic gambling is not, by itself, a commercial activity except in exceptional cases (skill/inside knowledge). An individual’s gambling activities may result in taxable business income or a business loss. This will be the case if the gambling activities constitute a source of income (that is, carrying on the business of gambling).

Best Ontario Sports Betting Sites: AGCO Register and the Rules

Published Oct 23, 2026

The best Ontario sports betting sites are the ones on the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) register, authorized by iGaming Ontario to run sports betting on the province's private market. bet365, BetMGM, FanDuel, Sports Interaction and theScore Bet are among the brands listed there under the sports betting category, as of 2026-09-16. Other licensees are on that same list, each tied to the legal entity behind the brand. The register is the benchmark here, not a leaderboard.

On Blue Line Picks, a hockey site built for Ontario bettors, that starting point never moves: registration comes before anything else.

What are Ontario's sports betting regulations?

The AGCO administers the Gaming Control Act, 1992 and sets the Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming, which bind every operator and supplier registered in this market. The legal age for online betting in Ontario is 19, and no site registered here opens an account below that age.

In Ontario, online gaming advertising is governed by the AGCO's Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming. Standard 2.05 prohibits advertising gambling inducements, bonuses and credits, except on an operator's own gaming site and through direct marketing after a player's active consent. That is why this site shows no offers and no bonuses. Standard 2.04 requires truthful marketing: it never presents gambling as an alternative to employment, a financial investment or a way to recover losses. Standard 2.03 prohibits targeting minors and high-risk players, and keeps active or retired athletes out of advertising, except to promote responsible gambling.

A player who wants a break can register with BetGuard, the centralized self-exclusion tool iGaming Ontario launched on 14 May 2026. From age 19, it covers every provincially regulated online gaming site for six months, one year, five years or a custom term, and blocks account access for that period. ConnexOntario answers at 1-866-531-2600, a free, confidential line open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with support in multiple languages.

What counts as an Ontario sportsbook?

An Ontario sportsbook only operates legally when it is conducted and managed by iGaming Ontario, the provincial agency established in July 2021 as an AGCO subsidiary and made an independent agency on 12 May 2025. iGaming Ontario oversees the registered private operators; OLG.ca sits outside that structure, run instead by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.

iGaming Ontario's register lists, brand by brand, the legal entity running it and the product classes on offer: sports betting, casino, poker, bingo or betting exchange. bet365, BetMGM, FanDuel, Sports Interaction and theScore Bet appear there under sports betting, as of 2026-09-16. For every other registered brand, that register stays the only source worth checking.

A dispute with a sportsbook starts with the operator, which has up to 90 days to issue a formal decision. If a regulated site appears to have broken the rules, the next step is a complaint to the AGCO through its iAGCO online service: acknowledgment arrives in about two business days, a compliance review takes up to five weeks, and a complex case runs three to six months. The AGCO can issue a warning, a suspension or a monetary penalty, but it cannot get a player's money back.

For a recreational bettor, winnings sit outside the tax net: the Canada Revenue Agency treats them as a windfall rather than income, unless the activity turns into a business such as bookmaking.

Ontario Betting Apps: How to Tell Which Ones Are Actually Licensed

Published Oct 28, 2026

What makes a betting app legal in Ontario?

A betting app is legal in Ontario once its operator is registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and offers its product through iGaming Ontario (iGO), the provincial agency that has managed the private market since July 2021. Ontario is the only province where a bettor picks among several registered private operators rather than one government site. Registered brands include bet365, BetMGM, FanDuel, Sports Interaction and theScore Bet. iGaming Ontario's own register, checked as of 2026-09-16, lists every approved operator and site. It also states the products each one offers.

Who regulates these apps?

The AGCO administers the Gaming Control Act, 1992, Ontario's gaming statute. It also sets the Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming, which bind every registered operator and supplier. iGaming Ontario, an independent agency since its own act was proclaimed on 12 May 2025, conducts and manages the gaming these private operators offer. OLG.ca, the public site, sits outside this private market.

How do we check an app is on the register?

iGaming Ontario's register lists, for each operator, the legal entity behind it and the site's address. It also states the products on offer, whether sports betting, casino, poker, bingo or a betting exchange. A quick search of the register before opening an account beats judging an app by its homepage alone.

What is the legal age to bet on an Ontario app?

The legal age for online gaming in Ontario is 19, as iGaming Ontario states it.

Why doesn't this site show any incentives or promotions?

What if we want to limit or stop betting on these apps?

BetGuard (betguard.ca) launched through iGaming Ontario on 14 May 2026. It lets anyone 19 or older opt out of every Ontario-regulated gaming site in one step. The exclusion runs for six months, one year, five years, or a custom term. ConnexOntario answers at 1-866-531-2600, around the clock, every day of the year, in multiple languages.

Are winnings from a betting app taxed?

For a recreational player, gambling winnings are not taxable income. The Canada Revenue Agency treats them as a windfall. That changes only where the gambling itself amounts to running a business.

What if something goes wrong with an app?

A bettor first complains to the site itself, which has up to 90 days to issue its decision. If the complaint is about a rule breach, the next step is a complaint to the AGCO through its iAGCO service. An acknowledgement arrives within about two business days. A standard review takes up to five weeks, a complex one three to six months. The AGCO can warn, suspend or fine an operator, but it cannot get a player's money back.
